Substitute Teachers

Individuals interested in applying for a substitute teaching position with the Sevier County School System must obtain an application from an administrator at one of our schools.

Notice:  You must be over 21 years of age to substitute at any high school or vocational school.

Substitute Teacher Hiring Process for 2024-2025

  1. Prospective substitute teacher picks up an application from the school principal.
  2. Prospective substitute teacher returns completed application to the school principal along with a copy of their driver’s license and social security card.
  3. School principal returns completed application and Substitute Teacher Recommendation Cover Letter (attached) and copy of driver’s license and social security card to David Loy via email.
  4. David reviews the application, conducts an interview, and completes reference checks.
  5. Upon an offer of employment, he submits an employment authorization.
  6. Krissy Sims contacts the substitute teacher with instructions on completing the TBI background check and the orientation process.

Other Items:

  • Substitutes must work 20 days each school year to stay active for the following year.
  • The substitute teacher incentive program remains in effect this year.
