Employee Benefits

The Sevier County Board of Education is pleased to offer a comprehensive benefits program for full-time employees. The information and links included on this page provide you with information for some of your most important benefits.

Health Insurance

Eligible state, local education and local government employees may enroll in health coverage through the state group insurance program. Available options include the Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) which is available statewide, a Point of Service (POS) also available statewide or a Health Maintenance Organization (HMO).

Annual Health Insurance Transfer Period:
October 15-November 15 (To transfer insurance plans only, not to change benefit plan)

*There is no open enrollment period for medical insurance beyond the initial enrollment period. New hires must complete and return an enrollment from within 30 days of their date of hire to receive medical benefits.

Once an employee has made benefit choices for the year, they may not be changed unless he/she has a qualifying change in family status. The federal law, Health Insurance Portability Accountability Act (HIPAA), states that qualifying changes in family status generally include:
  • Marriage or divorce
  • Birth or adoption of a child
  • Death of a spouse or dependent
  • Employees spouse stopping or starting work; or
  • Employee or spouse changing employment status (e.g., switching from full-time to part-time or vice versa, or taking an unpaid leave of absence)
To make a coverage change, an employee must notify Human Resources (in person) and complete the appropriate forms within 30 days of his/her status change.
